The Legacy Institute
Consulting

The Legacy Institute develops proprietary resources for a wide variety organizations to help them educate a broad spectrum of individuals on the subject of sexual integrity. We also offer consulting services for organizations who want to develop customized solutions to address their specific needs. This consulting ranges from simple assessments and recommendations (see Family Friendly Malls) to the development and production of targeted materials (see Targeted Lesson Plans) to the implementation of long-term plans for organizational change (see Pregnancy Center Protocol).

Below are some examples of how we have implemented the message of sexual integrity in other organizations:

Family Friendly Malls
In an effort to combat the age-old “sex sells” advertising technique, Legacy executives set up a meeting with the general manager of one of Washington state’s premiere shopping malls to discuss how the mall might work to create a more family-friendly atmosphere; one that promoted sexual integrity. We first walked through the mall and made notes, brought up our concerns with some store managers, wrote an assessment and, finally, presented our recommendations in a report that was, at the very least, illuminating to the general manager who used this in meetings to raise awareness. This process took approximately two weeks.

Targeted Lesson Plans
The North Dakota chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), a student-to-student mentoring program, wanted a lesson plan promoting sexual integrity that would work in concert with their materials that helped students with decision-making skills dealing with alcohol and drugs. The Legacy team developed a lesson along with training and evaluation tools that could be implemented easily by high school mentors with sixth grade students. As a follow-up, Carrie Abbott flew to North Dakota for an in-person teaching session where she addressed 700 student leaders and their advisors at their statewide convention. This process took approximately four months.

Pregnancy Center Protocol
Heartbeat International, a network of nearly 1000 pregnancy resource centers around the US and Canada, approached The Legacy Institute to develop a program for their “negative test” clients – those young women who visit centers believing they may be pregnant but turn out not to be. The Legacy team, led by Carrie Abbott, began the project by conducting months of research at several test sites to develop a framework for the program. Then, working with Heartbeat, The Legacy Institute began to create a broad tool belt of resources resulting in a groundbreaking program called The Sexual Integrity Program that includes manuals, book studies, relationship assessments, three video learning series and new intake protocols that help centers around the country make a positive impact in the lives of young women daily. This project took a year and a half to complete.
